K01 / Water

கிராம நீர் பாதுகாப்பு

Reliable village water

Ramanathapuram; southern Tamil Nadu screening areas

Evidence Groundwater resource and quality assessments are distinct evidence streams [S11]. Regional evidence cannot establish a particular village’s unmet need.

Response to assess Assess demand, leakage, storage and source quality first; compare repairs, safe rainwater capture and hydrogeologically suitable recharge. Reject recharge where contamination or saline conditions make it unsafe.

Baseline, measures & responsibilities
Baseline to collect
Seasonal supply days, source tests, household collection time, extraction and recharge context.
Outcomes to measure
Reliable supply days; tested water quality; collection time; operating cost.
Accountable roles to appoint
Panchayat or utility with an explicitly appointed maintenance operator.
Unresolved local evidence
Exact village, household baseline, aquifer suitability and lifecycle budget unverified.

Proposed application · owners are role suggestions, not confirmed partners. Agree timeline and lifecycle cost after site survey and design.

Tamil Nadu

K02 / Water

நிலத்தடி நீர்

Groundwater depletion in hard-rock catchments

Interior Karnataka; Telangana plateau; Rayalaseema

Evidence CGWB’s Karnataka assessment provides resource screening [S10]; Telangana’s state plan supplies sector context [S07]. Neither is a well-yield guarantee.

Karnataka

K04 / Floods

வெள்ளத் தாங்குதிறன்

K05 / Floods

மலைச்சரிவு அபாயம்

Landslide exposure in the Western Ghats

Wayanad; Nilgiris; Kodagu as separate screening landscapes

Evidence The 2024 Wayanad assessment found intensified triggering rain with substantial modelling uncertainty [S14]. It does not establish the cause of every slope failure.

METHOD & OPEN QUESTIONS

What this edition covers.

Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry and Lakshadweep. Neighbouring Western Ghats research is background only.

Curated evidence map, not an exhaustive review of all studies. Searches used government and original research organisations, research-team summaries and practitioner records. Review depth is stated per source. Search snippets and catalogues are explicitly distinguished from report excerpts. No full-text appraisal is claimed where access failed.

How sources were selected

Searches on 15 October 2026 covered state climate plans; regional climate and vulnerability; groundwater; floods and landslides; coasts and reefs; agriculture; restoration; sewage and waste; and energy and transport. Government agencies and original research teams were prioritised. Duplicate search results and general news were excluded as evidence records.

Only accessible excerpts and summaries were screened. This is not a full-text critical appraisal or systematic review; source counts refer to indexed resources, including portals and catalogues, rather than 30 completed study appraisals.

Where evidence is still thin

District-level cost-effectiveness, long-term maintenance, disaggregated impacts on vulnerable groups, salinity and mangrove restoration, fisheries adaptation, air pollution, industrial decarbonisation, fire, urban biodiversity and Eastern Ghats ecology need deeper study. Lakshadweep coverage currently focuses on reefs and heat stress.

Expand using district plans, university repositories, local-language studies and measured project evaluations. Record title, author, date, geography, method, findings, limitations and a stable URL; check for newer versions and corrections before adoption.

What is research, and what is POIGAI synthesis?

“Evidence” statements summarise the cited resource within its review depth. “Response to assess”, baseline, measures and accountable roles are POIGAI planning synthesis, not quoted study recommendations, proven packages or partner appointments. National and global findings are labelled and require local validation. Historical data are not presented as current conditions.

Corrections and contributions: send a public source URL, relevant place, method and any limitation to [email protected]. Submissions require editorial verification before inclusion. This edition is manually maintained; no automatic refresh is implied.
